Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet area situated in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" area. Many people who don't know they mistakenly believe they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact it is this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward from the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently cited, however her short visit to the West Island wasn't. Brugel grew in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. The first goal she had was to become an expert dancer. Then, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew every dance partner she had. She admitted in an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. When I reached the height of all my male partners, I stopped. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance of her drama teacher at high school that led her to the path she required. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school play. She was able to audition and be cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on both small and large screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the character in the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of occasions in the first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian participant.
